MUSIC MINISTRY

  • Worship and Music
    • Comprised of members representing various areas of the congregation
      • Purpose:  Work with our church as a whole to impact our community through vibrant, passionate music ministry by planning upcoming workship services.
  • St. Bartholomew Choir
    • St. Bartholomew Choir offers people, with a love of music,  a way to serve the Lord by expressing their faith in music.  In today's world, sacred music encompasses far more than pipe organ and choirs, with musical styles ranging from Bach to Rock.
  • St. Bartholomew gets new Choir Director
    •   In September 2014, we welcomed Ms. Charmaine Bacon as our new choir Director following the retirement of Mrs. Jeanette Jackson , who devoted more than two decades of dedicated service in the Music Ministry as choir director, vocalist and flutist at the church. Charmaine had earlier assumed the position of organist in the Spring 2014.

It is a pleasure to detail an updated version of an earlier introduction given to this talented Musician.

Originally from the west as in Russell, Manitoba, Charmaine recently completed a Master of Music degree at the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music, University of Manitoba. She has also studied music performance at the University of Toronto and the prestigious Glenn Gould School of Music.

Charmaine is an active performer and enjoys taking part in a variety of ensembles and concerts. She plays regularly with the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble and performs in her own recital series with guest artists, "Charmaine and Friends". She is the pianist for the Silver Notes choir, Margaret's choir (formerly known as Spirit's Call choir) sings with the Heartland Singers and of course is our organist at St. Bartholomew.

Charmaine is currently on staff at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts as flute instructor. She maintains a private flute and piano studio in Windsor Park.
She has taught at the University of Manitoba Preparatory Division, coached flute sections including those of the Manitoba Honour Bands, and has been on staff as Flute Choir director at the Canadian Mennonite University.

Serving as both Music Director and Organist at St. Bartholomew's, Charmaine works with the choir to improve vocal skills and expand on repertoire. She is currently on scholarship to study organ with Lottie Enns-Braun and has studied voice with Mel Braun.

We have also been blessed with frequent guest performances to enhance our worship on special holiday Sundays.

Regular guests include Megan Dufrat, on flute and Matt Neufeld on the trumpet. Megan played a vital role with our Summer Concert.(see past article).

Matt for the second consecutive year was the featured musician at our Remembrance day Service. We appreciated his dedication to this event of gratitude to our soldiers.

The esteemed Paul Williamson (tenor) has also made a guest appearance to sing at St. Bartholomew's and we are looking forward to a return visit in the summer 2015.
